I just picked up Brian from the airport a few hours ago. He had been in Orlando since Saturday. He was one of the judges this year for the annual Associated Press Sports Editors awards for sports journalism (he says it's like the Oscars for sports journalism). He has spent days reading sports stories/sections from around the country, along with his committee, which consisted of sports editors from the Minneapolis Star Tribune, Washington Post, and New York Times. There were over 100 judges in all; they were divided into committees of approximately five judges each, and they were assigned different judging categories.
He had a great experience, and found it to be extremely beneficial in two ways:
1) It was a fantastic networking opportunity
2) He came away with some great ideas to make his paper better
He did work pretty hard there, but the group did attend a show at Epcot Center and an Atlanta Braves spring training game. He also went to the Orlando Temple one evening.
The kids and I fared pretty well on our own. We spent a lot of time with my dear friend Elizabeth, whose husband Trent has been commuting to Reno since October while they wait for their house to sell. Between us, we have 7 children, and shared lots of dinners during the week. It definitely helps to lighten each other's burdens!
We were all happy to have daddy home. It won't be for long, as he leaves for the Colorado Rockies spring training in Tucson and Phoenix in a few weeks. Tough life!

Wow, what a great trip for Brian! I'm glad you had someone to hang out with.
Thank goodness for good friends! ;) Interesting that all Brian's events are in nice weather - can't he have an event in North Dakota or Rhode Island or something?
