Dashing through the snow

Two years ago during Christmas, on a year we stayed here in Colorado and didn't go to Minnesota, we took the kids on a sleigh ride in the mountains to get our "woods fix." We had such a great time that we decided to do it again this year. The first time we went to Winter Park, and this year we tried a lodge/resort near Estes Park. They were equally fabulous!

We went on Friday - the day after Christmas - and it was perfect sleigh ride weather, lightly snowing and cold enough that we had to dress quite warmly and snuggle under the blankets provided for us. Truly it was a winter wonderland as the horses pulled the sleigh through aspen and evergreen forests at the base of the rugged Rockies. Lovely.

Before the ride started, the kids had to get to know the horses.

Hard to find a prettier background than this!
The views along the way were fabulous.
Here we are, front and center in the front row of the sleigh.

We had a great time, the kids did great and completely loved it. We spent some time warming up in the lodge by the fire, and drinking hot chocolate, after the ride. Then we went for lunch at a local grill on main street of Estes Park. What a fun tradition this has become!
