Our third Olympic country study was Australia. We read these books-
And learned what the Australian flag represents, and recreated it-
We researched the Great Barrier Reef, and the kids made different aquatic creatures that live there and then created a diorama of the GBR, hanging the fish and other animals from fishing line. They loved this activity, and included jellyfish, great white shark, clownfish, coral trout, starfish, coral, sea turtle, octopus and sea snake-
We learned about the Sydney Opera House (and they were excited to recognize it from Finding Nemo)-
We watched videos of an aboriginal person playing the didgeridoo-
We learned about Uluru, in the Outback, the largest rock in the world-
We read this book about aboriginal people, and made our own aboriginal paintings-
For dinner, we threw some shrimp on the barbie (and I had to explain that we were not grilling Isabel's dolls); I made Pacific chicken, shrimp and kiwifruit kebobs-
